An RBD image is comprised of individual backing objects, each object no more than 4MB in size (assuming the default RBD object size when the image was created). You can refer to this document [1] to get a better idea of how striping is used. Effectively, a standard RBD image has a stripe count of 1 and a stripe unit of the object size (4MB default).
