I would advice to run the latest released kernel, so 4.0 as of now.
You have to remember that in the case of krbd or kcephfs the kernel is
not just something that enables userspace applications to run, it *is*
the application.  Why choose to run the latest version of component
A and then a year-old version of component B?

Note that if you enable hammer (i.e. "optimal") tunables you wouldn't
be able to mount cephfs with any released kernel - support for hammer
tunables is coming in 4.1.
