Hello,

Dumpling now supports crc32c, which is available on recent Intel processors ( not on AMD ones AFAIK).

How much does it affect performance ?

Does it affect the 1 GHz requirement per OSD ?

Should we avoid processors without crc32c support ?

Regards, Luc.

Hi Luc,

Just FYI, Ceph has had crc32c support for quite a while, but previously it was always using a slightly older C++ implementation.  It's only recently that it gained an SSE4 implementation that can be used on Intel processors.  We are also looking at an NEON implementation on ARM processors.

If you stick to the 1GHz per OSD requirement it does not necessarily improve speed, but it does seem to cut down on CPU usage during heavy large write scenarios fairly dramatically.  We are not changing the 1GHz per core recommendation at this time, though we may in the future depending on how things look with this change and others.
