The RHEL 7.5 release notes say:

> Python 2 has been deprecated
> Python 2 will be replaced with Python 3 in the next Red Hat Enterprise
> Linux (RHEL) major release.

(It also says python 3 is available to RHEL customers through Red Hat
Software Collections, which must be the extra repos John mentioned)
