yes, on line, with no issues on centos 5.4

just tested it again in a virtual machine, with no issues

[root@dhcp-204 ~]# lvextend -L +1G /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol02

  Logical volume LogVol02 successfully resized
[root@dhcp-204 ~]# df -h
Filesystem            Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00
                      3.7G  1.3G  2.3G  37% /
/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol02

[root@dhcp-204 ~]# resize2fs /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol02

Performing an on-line resize of /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol02 to 516096 (4k) blocks.
