# rpm -ql mysql-libs|grep /etc
/etc/ld.so.conf.d/mysql-i386.conf
/etc/my.cnf
has /etc/my.cnf. here are the contents if that could help.
# cat /etc/my.cnf

basedir=/var/lib
[mysqld_safe]
err-log=/var/log/mysqld.log
pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid
[root@ftp ~]# service mysqld start
