Probably, I must admit that I haven't got a minute to get back to that problem. Look for kudzu or discover, read about hwdata. If it's some production system and you are afraid of changes, make a backup copy of some runlevel where runlevel<6 and runlevel>1, copy everything from default runlevel (3) and play with that.
