Sean,
 I believe that you are correct ...

Some problems are going to be:

1.  Trying to change centos-4 to not use udev ... or roll that into a
2.4 kernel.

2. Also there are other LVM2 features and SELinux that do not exist in
the 2.4 kernel.

That is just off the top of my head ... I'm sure there are other major
issues trying to boot a 2.4 kernel on CentOS-4.
