So this is a CanoScan 9000. According to 
http://sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html#Z-CANON it is supported since
sane-1.0.27. Centos 78 apparently has Sane 1.0.24. So you must have
downloaded a later version of Sane somewhere or compiled it yourself
(not too difficult)
