I had good luck recording mp3 streams with the combo of streamtuner
and streamripper.  YMMV:

http://www.nongnu.org/streamtuner/
http://streamripper.sourceforge.net/

Streamtuner had a "record" button that called streamripper at the
end of the day - very convenient.
