[Centos] Centos 4 vs Centos 3.4

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

I have a pile of rack servers to upgrade. Most are running RH 7.3 or
RH9. Over the last 4-6 months, I've upgraded a few servers to CentOS
(now running 3.4) and have been quite happy with the results. All the
familiar RH creature comforts, files are where you expect, configuration
is familiar, etc. So before I take the plunge and start rolling things
out, is there any compelling reason to entertain using Centos 4
instead? My understanding is that it's basically the same except for
the 2.6 kernel and updated support packages required for the newer kernel.

The reason I ask is that a number of the machines are dual opteron boxes
so it would be nice to get some of the 64-bit fixins in the 2.6 kernels
that haven't yet (or may never be) been backported to the 2.4 kernels.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Chris
