Weekly U.S. Influenza Surveillance Report

Seasonal influenza activity continues to increase and is elevated across most of the country. Forty-three jurisdictions are experiencing high or very high levels of influenza-like-illness activity. CDC estimates that there have been at least 9.1 million flu illnesses, 110,000 flu hospitalizations, and 4,700 deaths from flu so far this season.

New Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) Web Pages

CDC recently published two new web pages on H5N1 bird flu. These resources provide information on how bird flu spreads, symptoms, people at increased risk of infection, and more. The risk for the U.S. general public remains low and CDC is monitoring the situation carefully. The best way to keep from getting bird flu is to avoid infected or potentially infected animals.
