Vaccine Information Statement (VIS) Document Code Set Upcoming Changes Reminder November 15, 2024

Release Notes: This notification provides an advance reminder regarding the upcoming final conversion to new URLs for the Vaccine Information Statement (VIS) URLs provided in the vaccine code set.

The updated code set files and release notes will be provided on the final conversion date of January 17, 2025.

VIS Code Conversion Details
VIS codes are created to enable provider systems to implement VIS 2D barcode scanning and to help automate capture of edition date and associated information for the specific VIS document edition given to the recipient or caregiver. VIS codes may be published in advance of the actual VIS document publication, but they are only in effect and useable starting on the edition date of the VIS. The URLs included in the vaccine code set will not point to the new edition until the VIS document edition date.

All URLs for VIS documents have been changed as part of the new CDC.gov website implementation.

  • During the current transition period, original URLs in the vaccine code sets redirect to the new URLs.

  • As new VIS editions are updated, the URLs for those records are being updated to directly access the new document URL site.

  • Effective January 17, 2025, the old URLs will no longer redirect, and all remaining active VIS editions will convert to utilize the new URLs. The vaccine code set will be updated to only include the new URLs.

  • Users may update to the new URLs in advance of the final conversion date. The “NEW VIS URL Table” is available on the following webpage: https://www.cdc.gov/iis/code-sets/vis-url-table.html#cdc_data_surveillance_section_3-new-vis-url-table
