CDC A(H5N1) Bird Flu Response Update

CDC has confirmed three more human cases of H5 bird flu in California, raising the California total to six. CDC shared a genetic data summary on avian influenza A(H5N1) viruses in CA; provided information on a program to test symptomatic farm workers for flu and triage them for H5 testing and treatment; and gave an update on a free seasonal flu vaccine program for farm workers in affected states.
“A flu vaccine can take flu from” is written in white on a red background followed by “wild to mild” on larger white letters. A puffer fish is juxtaposed against a goldfish with an orange background.

Updated Wild to Mild Campaign Assets

CDC has updated its Wild to Mild campaign digital media toolkit with free resources to share messages on flu vaccination. The toolkit includes refreshed social media assets and print-ready materials for key audiences. This campaign educates people on how flu vaccines reduce severity of illness in people who get vaccinated and still get sick with flu.

While vaccination is the best way to prevent flu and its potentially serious complications, hand washing, wearing a high-quality facemask, and increasing ventilation may help slow the spread of respiratory viruses, including influenza virus.
