Weekly U.S. Influenza Surveillance Report

Flu activity remains low nationally, but some parts of the country have reported increases in flu activity. The number of flu hospitalizations also remains low. One flu-associated pediatric death that occurred last season was reported this week, bringing the total number of flu-associated pediatric deaths for that season to 179.

High Rates of Child Flu Hospitalizations Recorded Last Season

In an MMWR report, CDC describes a 2022-2023 flu season that had higher rates of flu-related hospitalizations in children and teens than previous seasons with a lower proportion vaccinated. Parents can help protect children from flu and its potentially serious complications by getting their children vaccinated, ideally by the end of October.

CDC Offers Spanish Social Media Toolkit

CDC is committed to breaking down barriers and ethnic disparities in flu vaccine coverage. As part of this effort, CDC offers flu vaccination campaign materials to support partners in communicating the importance of flu vaccination to Spanish-speaking communities. The digital toolkit includes Spanish social media content, graphics, and new Wild to Mild campaign assets.
