Weekly U.S. Influenza Surveillance Report

Flu activity and flu-related hospital admissions continue to remain low nationally. Two flu-related deaths in children that occurred during the 2022-2023 season were reported this week. CDC recommends that everyone 6 months and older ideally get a flu vaccine by the end of October, but later vaccination is still recommended.

Cambodia Reports Two New Cases of H5N1Bird Flu

Cambodia reported two fatal human infections with highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 (bird flu) virus. These are the third and fourth human infections reported by Cambodia during 2023. Both people were exposed to infected poultry before becoming ill. The risk to U.S. public health is low. CDC is monitoring the situation and will provide updates as needed.

CDC Celebrates 10 Years of PIVI Partnership

CDC and the Partnership for International Vaccine Initiatives (PIVI) celebrate its 10th anniversary of helping to build strong, sustainable flu vaccine programs in low- and middle-income countries. PIVI has provided more than 5 million doses of flu vaccine and technical assistance to 21 countries. CDC’s global partnerships help protect against flu and prepare for seasonal and pandemic threats.
