VIS Document Code Set Update November 9, 2022

 

Release Notes:  This release covers code updates for Vaccine Information Statement (VIS) codes and maps only.  

 
These release notes address code updates for the following:

  1. NEW VIS edition for "Smallpox/Monkeypox Vaccine VIS" with effective date of November 14, 2022

1. VIS Code Updates

VIS codes are created to enable provider systems to implement VIS scanning and to help automate capture of the specific VIS document edition given to the recipient or caregiver.  VIS codes may be published in advance of the actual VIS document publication, but they are only in effect and useable starting on the edition date of the VIS.  The URLs included in the code set will not point to the new edition until the VIS document edition date.

 
This release includes the following VIS related code additions and changes:

 
One new VIS document edition record has been added and dated 11/14/2022 for "Smallpox/Monkeypox Vaccine VIS".  This VIS supersedes the previous edition dated 08/23/2022.  This VIS relates only to the JYNNEOS smallpox/monkeypox vaccine.

 

1. In the code set files, the following has been added for the new VIS edition record:

 

2. In the code set files the previous edition for this VIS has been retired effective 11/14/2022 and the following changes made:

  • The previous VIS edition "VIS Fully-encoded text string" is 253088698300053011220823
  • "Date of Last Update":  11/14/2022
  • "Edition Status":  Historic

Note: (*) VIS Document Type Descriptions in the VIS vaccine code set may not be exactly the same as the final published VIS document title.

 

The following three VIS code set files have been updated on the CDC website to reflect the changes in this release:

  • VIS Barcode Lookup Table
  • CVX to VIS
  • VIS URLs
