Multiple Variants of SARS-CoV-2 in a University Outbreak After Spring Break — Chicago, Illinois, March–May 2021 After spring break 2021, COVID-19 cases increased rapidly at a Chicago university despite mitigation measures. Interviews indicated that the majority of cases occurred in unvaccinated persons with a history of recent travel. Sequencing corroborated multiple introductions to campus and demonstrated that even a single importation can result in many cases.
