Don't miss today's National AHEC Organization HPV webinar

“Perspectives on Vaccine Hesitancy”

Presented by: Dr. Gary S. Marshall, Professor of Pediatrics;
Chief, Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases,
University of Louisville School of Medicine

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of
health professionals who provide and/or promote immunizations
including physicians, physician assistants and registered nurses.

Educational Objectives

 How can we explain vaccine hesitancy given the self-evident truth that vaccines have unburdened mankind from so many serious diseases? This program beings with that self-evident truth but moves through the character and epidemiology of vaccine hesitancy to exploring the root causes, which lie deep within the nature of being human. Discussion topics include the power of anecdote, the ubiquity of (mis)information, celebrity-ism, confusion, the human tendency towards heuristic thinking and the decline of altruism. Risk-benefit communication is explored and thoughts are offered on how we can better deal with this threat to public health. The lecture is replete with impactful illustrations and anecdotes.
