Update: Ongoing Zika Virus Transmission — Puerto Rico, November 1, 2015–July 7, 2016 Laura Adams, DVM; Melissa Bello-Pagan, MS; Matthew Lozier, PhD; et al. MMWR Morb Mortal Wkly Rep 2016;65(Early Release) The Puerto Rico Department of Health (PRDH) and CDC devised a Zika virus response strategy after the reporting of the first locally acquired case of Zika virus infection in Puerto Rico in December 2015. During November 1, 2015–July 7, 2016, a total of 23,487 persons with suspected cases of Zika virus disease infection or Guillain-Barré syndrome or who were pregnant but asymptomatic were evaluated by PRDH and CDC Dengue Branch; 5,582 (24%) confirmed and presumptive positive Zika virus cases were identified.
