The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of
sixty-nine National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer centers working to
improve domestic HPV vaccination rates, is hosting the next HPV vaccination summit for
“Increasing HPV Vaccination in the US: A Collaboration of NCI-Funded Cancer
Centers” Thursday, June 30th and Friday July 1st in Columbus, Ohio.
Douglas
R. Lowry, MD, Acting Director of the NCI, is a special guest and keynote
speaker. Goals of the
meeting include:
- Updates from national partners supporting HPV vaccination uptake
- A review of HPV environmental scan supplements
- Discussion of opportunities for cancer centers to collectively engage in activities associated with HPV vaccination
- Research opportunities related to HPV vaccination.
An updated version of the You Are the Key slides is now available. These slides provide helpful information on effectively communicating with parents about vaccinating their 11 to 12 year olds against HPV cancers. As an HPV Vaccine Champion you can educate your entire staff by sharing the You Are the Key presentation with them. Furthermore, you can lead the conversation with others by presenting You Are the Key to other clinicians to encourage their strong recommendation for HPV vaccine. Another new resource is now available to assist you in
involving various partner organizations in improving HPV vaccination coverage
in your area. What Can We Do helps us all better understand where we fit in and
how we can work together to protect the next generation from HPV cancers. You

This year's National Immunization
Conference (NIC) will be held September 13-15, 2016 at the Hilton Atlanta Hotel, in downtown Atlanta.
This three-day conference will include plenary sessions, breakout sessions,
workshops, immunization Q&A sessions, posters, exhibits, and the Hilleman
Lecture. NIC will highlight the following major topic areas:
- Adult Immunization
- Immunization Information Systems
- Programmatic Issues
- Health and Risk Communications
- Epidemiology and Surveillance
- Childhood and Adolescent
Immunization. Please note that while there is no charge to attend the
conference, space is limited. It is recommended to register well in
advance of the registration deadline of August 22, 2016, to guarantee
availability.

In 2013, Linda Halsey, an executive director at a Brooklyn dance
company, founded Caleb’s Feet Foundation (CFF) in honor of her daughter Cheryl
Janeé Parris who battled cervical cancer. The foundation was named after
Caleb’s Feet Dance Company, which was owned and operated by Parris prior to her
passing. With the passing of her daughter, Halsey felt that there was a need to
share the information about cervical cancer and HPV infection with her
community. Halsey was not aware of cervical cancer or its link to HPV infection
until it touched her family.
