Student Indoor Tanning
According to some research, tanning salons tend to exist in areas with a greater number of girls and women aged 15-29 years and are particularly concentrated near colleges. Those who begin indoor tanning during adolescence or early adulthood have a higher risk of getting melanoma.

Births: Preliminary Data for 2014
The 2014 preliminary number of U.S. births was 3,985,924, an increase of 1% from 2013. The number of births increased for women in all race and Hispanic origin groups in 2014 except for American Indian or Alaska Native women, for whom births decreased.

Early Release of Selected Estimates Based on Data From the 2014 National Health Interview Survey
Estimates are provided for 15 selected health measures based on data from the 2014 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) and presents estimates from 1997 through 2013 for comparison.

Health Insurance Coverage: Early Release of Estimates from the National Health Interview Survey, 2014
Among adults in age groups 18–24, 25–34, 35–44, and 45–64, men were more likely than women to lack health insurance coverage at the time of interview.

Patterns of Health Insurance Coverage Around the Time of Pregnancy Among Women with Live-Born Infants — Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System, 29 States, 2009
This report summarizes data from 29 states that conducted PRAMS in 2009. Data on the prevalence of health insurance coverage stability (stable coverage, unstable coverage, and uninsured) the month before pregnancy, during pregnancy, and at the time of delivery are reported by state and selected maternal characteristics.

Prevalence of Sexual Violence Against Children and Use of Social Services — Seven Countries, 2007–2013
The lifetime prevalence of experiencing any form of sexual violence in childhood ranged from 4.4% among females in Cambodia to 37.6% among females in Swaziland, with prevalence in most countries greater than 25.0%. In most countries surveyed, the proportion of victims that received services, including health and child protective services, was ≤10.0%. Both prevention and response strategies for sexual violence are needed.

HIV Testing in the Past Year Among the U.S. Household Population Aged 15–44: 2011–2013
Overall, 19% of persons aged 15–44 in 2011–2013 had been tested for HIV in the past year, including 22% of females and 16% of males. HIV testing in the past year was most common among females aged 25–34 (29%), followed by females aged 15–24 (22%) and females aged 35–44 (16%).

Sexually Transmitted Diseases Treatment Guidelines, 2015
These updated guidelines discuss 1) alternative treatment regimens for Neisseria gonorrhoeae; 2) the use of nucleic acid amplification tests for the diagnosis of trichomoniasis; 3) alternative treatment options for genital warts; 4) the role of Mycoplasma genitalium in urethritis/cervicitis and treatment-related implications; 5) updated HPV vaccine recommendations and counseling messages; 6) the management of persons who are transgender; 7) annual testing for hepatitis C in persons with HIV infection; 8) updated recommendations for diagnostic evaluation of urethritis; and 9) retesting to detect repeat infection.

Vital Signs: Melanoma Incidence and Mortality Trends and Projections — United States, 1982–2030
Melanoma is the seventh most common cancer for women. Among persons aged 15–49 years, higher rates were observed among women. Nearly one-third of non-Hispanic white women aged 16–25 years engage in indoor tanning each year.  

Preventing Melanoma: Vital Signs
Nearly 1 of 3 young non-Hispanic white women ages 16–25 uses indoor tanning each year. Indoor tanning exposes people to more intense UV rays than the sun. About 6,200 melanomas are estimated to be caused each year by indoor tanning.

Community-wide efforts, such that agencies and organizations, schools, colleges, universities, businesses and employers, healthcare systems, insurers, and clinicians can all take an active role in preventing melanoma by promoting skin safe behaviors.

Workplace Secondhand Smoke Exposure during Pregnancy: Who is Protected? Blog
We estimated that about 1 in 10 nonsmoking, working women of reproductive age in the United States are exposed to secondhand smoke at work. We also found that black women were twice as likely to be exposed to secondhand smoke at work during pregnancy as white women.
