Assessment of Ebola Virus Disease, Health Care Infrastructure, and Preparedness —
Four Counties, Southeastern Liberia, August 2014

Joseph D. Forrester, MD, Satish Pillai, MD, Karlyn D. Beer, PhD, et al.
MMWR 2014;63(Early Release):1-3

In late March 2014, Ebola virus disease (EVD) cases were reported in Liberia, with epicenters in Lofa County and later in Montserrado County. Although information about cases and health care infrastructure was available for the two epicenters, little information was available regarding remote counties in southeastern Liberia. During August 6–14, EVD cases, health care infrastructure, and emergency preparedness were assessed in collaboration with the Liberian Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in four counties in southeastern Liberia: Grand Gedeh, Grand Kru, River Gee, and Maryland. This report summarizes that assessment.
