Acute Neurologic Illness of Unknown Etiology in Children — Colorado, August–September 2014

On September 16, 2014, CDC was notified by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment of a cluster of nine children evaluated at Children’s Hospital Colorado with acute neurologic illness characterized by extremity weakness, cranial nerve dysfunction, or both. Neurologic illness onsets occurred during August 8–September 15, 2014. This report summarizes the investigation that followed. |

Acute Flaccid Paralysis with Anterior Myelitis — California, June 2012–June 2014

A total of 23 cases of acute flaccid paralysis with anterior myelitis were identified during August 2012–June 2014 in California. No common etiology was identified, although clinical laboratory findings supported a viral etiology. Two patients tested positive for enterovirus D68 from upper respiratory specimens. |
