Weekly Influenza Surveillance

Flu activity is widespread in most of the country. High flu activity is likely to continue for several weeks. If you have not gotten your flu vaccine yet this season, you should get one now. And remember that flu antiviral drugs are a second line of defense to treat flu illness. People at high risk of serious flu illness should call a health care provider if they get flu symptoms.

What you need to know for the 2013-2014 Season


Avian Influenza: Information for Health Professionals and Laboratorians

In light of the recent case of human infection with highly pathogenic avian influenza A (H5N1) in North America, CDC is currently updating several of the H5N1 and general avian influenza interim guidance documents. The updated documents will be posted to this new page as they are finalized. In the meantime, please refer to the most recent interim H7N9 and H5N1 documents available.

Flu Prevention Partners Success Story: Jewish Healthcare Center, Massachusetts

Jewish Healthcare Center, MassachusettsWith consistently high patient and resident flu vaccination rates, between 96% and 100%, the Jewish Healthcare Center, Worcester, Massachusetts focused on improving employee flu vaccination rates during the 2013-2014 season to comply with new patient safety standards as required by Joint Commission of Accreditation of Hospitals, Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and Accountable Care Organizations. Within just the first two months, from October to December, JHC more than doubled their prior season’s rates, with 82.5% of staff being vaccinated against the flu!
