What's New

Weekly Influenza Surveillance

Influenza activity is low in the United States, but is expected to increase in the coming weeks. Yearly vaccination is the first and most important step in protecting against flu. Flu vaccination can reduce flu illnesses, doctors' visits, missed work due to flu, as well as prevent flu-related hospitalizations and deaths. If you have not gotten your flu vaccine yet this season, you should get one now.

What you need to know for the 2013-2014 Season

New Web Tools for NIVW

CDC supports organizations across the country in their vaccination efforts during National Influenza Vaccination Week. There are podcastsecards and other e-health resources available to support this effort. You can help in promoting the ongoing flu vaccine efforts by placing these graphics on your web pages.

These tools can be placed in any way that works best for your particular site. We are hoping to see these graphics on as many of our partner sites as possible in the weeks leading up to, and even past NIVW.

Partner Success Story

In September 2013, responding to new regulations from New York State’s Department of Health requiring all health care personnel to be vaccinated against influenza (“flu”) or wear a mask in areas where patients may be present, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) kicked off a vigorous campaign to raise awareness of the new rules and vaccinate employees.
