Hispanic-Serving Health Professions Schools (HSHPS) is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for the 2006 Training Programs. The Internship program has expanded to include opportunities along the US/Mexico Border and  also provides a  6-month fellowship for recent graduates. The purpose of the training program is to foster the development of public health and research skills of Health Professions students  interested in Hispanic Health in order to increase the number of individuals who pursue careers in epidemiology, preventive medicine, and public health research.  It is also intended to provide an  enriching experience that is intended to equip students with the research/clinical experiences that will expose them to current techniques in surveillance and interventions directed at improving the health of the Hispanic population. The HSHPS training programs will provide a stipend and will cover the trainees? costs for travel, housing, transportation, and miscellaneous expenses.

The Hispanic-Serving Health Professions Schools (HSHPS) is a non-profit organization established in 1996 in response to the President?s Executive Order 12900, ?Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans.? The Association was established with support from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as part of the DHHS ?Hispanic Agenda for Action Initiative.? HSHPS currently represents over twenty medical schools and five schools of public health across the United States. The goal of HSHPS is to improve the health of the Hispanic community by increasing the Hispanic workforce in all fields of health care, increasing Hispanic health care research, and improving the curriculum of health professions schools.
