Now that autumn is here and temperatures are cooling, it’s a good time of the year to start hiking and exploring interesting areas in the High Desert again. From now and through next spring is a great time to put on those hiking boots and get out to areas like Deep Creek, Round Mountain and Juniper Flats. (VV Daily Press Story)

On the weekend of Sept. 29, thirteen Generation Green students from Grant High School in Sacramento participated in a nationwide volunteer event called National Public Land Day. Chico State, hosted the event in partnership with BLM and Forest Service. Generation Green students did trail maintenance work and picked up trash along Red Bluff Recreational Area and Clear Creek Greenway. (BLM California Facebook)

Our Eagle Lake Field Office has been using a variety of workforce tools to get the job done. Last week, we had assistance from conservation crews housed at the California Correctional Center near Susanville. Thanks to their help, 12 miles of the planned 28-mile network of looped trails will be completed by fall. (BLM California Facebook)

Staff and partners in our Eagle Lake Field Office spent Saturday, Oct. 13, showing northeast California residents how the first people in the region survived and thrived. More than 100 participants tried their hands at acorn grinding, spear throwing and rock art creation in the fifth annual public archaeology day. Visitors stopped by several learning stations focused on native plants, wildlife, archaeological excavation, orienteering and pioneer games. We were happy that many local families spent part of their weekend learning about the Native American perspective of early life in the region. (BLM California Facebook)

The Rally will wind south through the California deserts and into the Imperial Sand Dunes for the finish over an eight-day period. A huge awards party dubbed Rebellation is planned for Saturday, October 20, at Lane Field in San Diego. (Four Wheeler Network News Story)

The Bureau of Land Management will offer a special fall colors bike ride and bike shuttle Saturday, Oct. 20, on the Bizz Johnson National Recreation Trail near Susanville. Participants can get some exercise and enjoy spectacular fall colors. The ride will be on a smooth and wide gravel trail.(BLM News Release)

The BLM Wild Horse and Burro Program is excited to announce nearly 70 events this year as part of BLM's efforts to find good homes for our nation's wild horses and burros. Known for their intelligence, endurance and loyalty, wild horses and burros, with the right training, are outstanding for trail riding, packing, working and have successfully competed for awards in numerous fields from endurance riding to dressage. With more than 81,000 wild horses and burros on BLM-managed public lands, these wild icons of our American history need your help more than ever. Without any natural predators that can control population growth, wild horse and burro herds grow rapidly on the range and can quickly overcome the land's ability to support them. The BLM works to maintain healthy wild herds by gathering excess animals and placing them into good homes. (BLM Website)
