Teams have focused on off-highway vehicle route restoration, trail construction and maintenance, wildlife habitat improvement, fence-building and resource inventory and monitoring. Trail 43, lovingly called the Ewok Trail by local recreationalists, was starting to get severely rutted and degraded with the decades of use. MORCA and BLM staff worked together to create a reroute plan. The rerouted trail took 442 hours, across 13 days, with 32 different volunteers helping along the way. That is a truly incredible amount of lifesaving blood collected. That is thousands of patients saved and families touched by generous federal employee blood donors. UPCOMING EVENTS August 5: Volunteer Stewardship Day in the Bodie Hills Join Bodie Hills Conservation Partnership, Friends of the Inyo, the BLM Bishop Field Office and Bodie State Historic Park for a volunteer stewardship day in Bodie State Historic Park this Saturday, August 5. Meet at the red barn in the center of the Bodie ghost town at 8:30 a.m., projects start at 9 a.m. A lunch and raffle will take place at 12:30 p.m. Light breakfast and lunch will be provided. Free admission to the State Park for volunteers and an interpretive tour will take place after lunch. Make sure you wear work appropriate clothing; hat, long pants and closed-toe shoes. Gloves and tools will be provided. Volunteers will be removing duplicate non-historic fencing to benefit wildlife, the Park and aesthetics. Through the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act, the BLM and other Federal agencies -- including U.S. Forest Service, the National Park Service, the Bureau of Reclamation, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service -- collect recreation fees to maintain and improve the quality of visitor services and amenities.
