We head out for a wild ride on the famous Giant Gap run of the even more famous North Fork American Wild and Scenic River, a part of the BLM’s National Conservation Lands. It’s one of the most challenging runs in Northern California – and just less than an hour from Sacramento. In some places, cliffs tower 2,000 feet above a path through rapids choked with boulders. You can enjoy the view without the rapids from the Stevens Trail, about four miles each way and 1200 vertical feet to the river.
