New Piedras Blancas Leader Cooper to Light the Way

When fans of Piedras Blancas Light Station gather at 6 p.m. Friday, June 5, at Cambria’s Veterans Memorial Building, they’ll not only be celebrating the beautifully scenic National Outstanding Natural Area itself and the 15th anniversary of the Bureau of Land Management’s National Conservation Lands, they’ll be welcoming a new Piedras leader, Ryan Cooper. Last week, the BLM and Forest Service released final environmental reviews for proposed land use plans that will help conserve greater sage-grouse habitat and support sustainable economic development on portions of public lands in 10 states across the West. The land management plans, developed during the past three years in partnership with the states and with input from local partners, will benefit wildlife, outdoor recreation, ranching and other traditional land uses that rely on a healthy sagebrush landscape. On a cool morning you could catch a glimpse of a badger, mountain lion, or golden eagle.  Maybe you'll see a black-tailed deer, turkeys, bobcats, coyotes, gopher snakes, red tailed hawks, Canada geese, coast horned lizards, or California quail.
