Hi Rob-and-thanks for a rapid reply: I think I am useing both, although I 
prefer alsa, but we have I think pulse running through vlc for an audio editor. 
When I type paplay or aplay, they both play in the same card. If there is an 
accurate way of answering your question, please I will be `quite happy-and-run 
commands. I am in TCSH. Thanks so much in advance
