Thank you Didier. And thank you for the address to the instructions.
I'm going to try to build a system on an external USB drive. I'll be
using a windows 10 machine to do the work. Now I just need to make it
boot from USB stick.

Hi Howard,
the Slint USB stick contains all you need to install Slint, not an already
installed system.
Instructions here: https://slint.fr/doc/HandBook.html#_slint_installation
I suggest that you choose the Auto installation mode, easier for beginners.
Cheers,
Didier

Thanks to all who have made suggestions.
First: I downloaded ubuntu and flashed it to a USB stick.
Next: I got my mind changed (probably for the nbetter), so I downloaded Slink
and flashed it to another USB stick.
Now I have two USB sticks that each contain a version of linux. Assuming I'm
gonna go with Slinnt, do I now have a bootable working copy of Slint? Or is
there more to do before I'm actually running linux?
Thanks still more.
Howard
