The reason alpine is still being developed is no problem but a positive. On the alpine mailing list problems are rare and quickly fixed if encountered when new updates come out. Pine is not under development because it is a dormant dead end project of the u. of washington. I have used both extensively and alpine is just as good or better then pine in all respects.
