OK, perhaps I'm not tracking shifting nomenclature. To my mind speechd isn't clear. But, regardless ... Are you confident that the audio environment is working properly. Can you play audio, e.g: Open a command prompt and issue a command like: paplay [some-file].wav This should work from a text console or the graphical terminal, assuming speech-dispatcher hasn't been launched yet. Heck, it should work with speech-dispatcher launched, but there are situations where that isn't the case. Thus my advice to test without speech-dispatcher.
