You shouldn't need a screen to run GNOME. The first thing you hear after "screen reader on" should be your username. If you don't hear that, press enter anyway. You should be prompted for a password. Enter your password and the system should start. You may hear no sound the first time you login , but you can press alt+super+s to make the screen reader start. Note that you shouldn't have to enter your username, as you normally select it from a list. If your user is the only one on the list, you will have your username and then "not in list."
