I'm guessing you have one of the following: 1) a cable coming out of your wall into a provider-supplied cable-modem, with a cable coming out of that modem to your computer 2) a cable coming out of your wall into a provider-supplied cable-modem, with a cable coming out of that modem to a consumer router box that allows you to share that internet connection where one or more computers (or tablets or phones or refrigerators or whatever) are either hard-wired into that router or attached via wireless. 3) a cable coming out of your wall plugs directly into a special card in your computer. In case #1 and #2, it should Just Work, as Ubuntu should use DHCP to find the address that the cable company gives out. Sometimes the modem remembers the last device you plugged into it and will refuse to give out a new DHCP address until the modem has been reset. In case #3, it's a LOT more complex, so if this is freakishly your situation, it might require a lot more technical work (and I'd be flying by the seat of my pants) -tim _______________________________________________ Blinux-list mailing list Blinux-list@xxxxxxxxxx https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/blinux-list
