This won't help for laptops, but you can buy desktop machines with ECC memory
even at relatively modest prices. You can then run mcelog to report any memory
errors. Even better, single-bit errors are corrected by the memory modules
themselves.

My desktop machine has buffered ECC RAM and a board that supports it.
