Well, except that there's effectively a screen reader (eterm speech
support) inside emacspeak. I find that emacspeak's terminal support
works better for me than the accessibility support in gnome-terminal via
orca. Of course I've been using emacspeak as screen reader for console
apps since somewhere around the first release of emacspeak with eterm
support.
