I remember in DOS when examining available space, it was never larger than
2.147GB.

What type of filesystem are you writing to? Ext2/3/4? NTFS? FAT32/VFAT? With an Ext filesystem, I have no trouble writing files larger than 2gb. With FAT32/VFAT, it chokes at 2gb.

Alternatively, trn may have a bug that makes it fall over if it exceeds 2gb.
