Hi, Ocropus does some pre-processing before it uses tesseract. This is things like breaking the origional image into blocks of text and so on. The idea is also that ocropus will be able to use more than one scan engine in the long run. Why not then just use tesseract? At the end of the day, because using it through ocropus will give better results.
