How do I set the recording volume for my microphone?
I've searched on google and tried everything but the recording is very, very low.

Hi,

Have you tried aumix and alsamixer? I find amixer easier to use but alsamixer lets you adjust the volume with the arrows. aumix is more limited but I find it easier for quickly adjusting the master volume. Try this for example:

aumix -v100

Also, read the man page for amixer and aumix.

I've tried amixer.

What does amixer by itself say? There should be a control for microphone or line in. On my system, I do this to adjust my playback volume, but adjust as necessary for your sound card. Watch the case.

amixer set Master playback 100,100

Try something like this and see if it helps:

amixer | grep -i record
amixer contents | grep -i record

If none of that helps, your sound card is probably not fully supported in Linux, or at least not by ALSA. Try looking for different sound card drivers.
