It's because files outside of /usr/local directory hierarchy are fair gaim
for upgrading packages to u8pgrade or erase. This applies both to yum as

Hi,
I ran apt-get install gcj
and in another terminal I had hpodder running.
I came back to my system to see them both done, however, I heard no
speech. I only had braille.
After replacing the conf files I had for speechd-up with a default set I got
from someone on irc it works now.
I have speech like before.
I am just not sure why it would have stopped talking when installing
something?
