Slackware uses different coloring attributes for selection lists. See if you can use the braille window to search for color attribute labels on selections and you may have better luck. I only know this because I use the speakup version and speakup has a key combination insert-delete on numpad to show colors of highlighted part of the screen. If your braille window won't do something similar, I'd get a regund for it real fast and find a brand and model that will.
