ok, how do it work? do I mount the computer as a file system in linux?

If, as you say, you only need to access files,
rather than running executables remotely, then samba will do the trick.
I run a linux box, and my wife and kids have windows computers,
and I'm constantly moving files between the three machines; no problem.
