If I remember, when you install Knoppix on the hard disk, BRLTTY files are copied but BRLTTY is not automatically started when you reboot the computer. The solution is to mount the Knoppix root partition before rebooting the system and to add the brltty command in a shell script which will be exeecuted when starting up the system. Hope that help !
