What is the link to this file? I'd like to test it also with mpg123 
because I dont't think the mp3-standart has changed in the last years 
and so mpg123 should be able to play it. Maybe the file is damaged...

mplayer is a very good player that can handle many more formats than 
mp3, mplye don't need X.
