There is already a modified boot disk that will run most basic shell
stuff on the speakup site. It is called tomsrtbt and you can find it at
ftp://linux-speakup.org/pub/linux/speakup/disks/tomsrtbt. With the
current state of things you don't need X to make a system run linux. Just
stick in a floppy, tell it what synth you have at the boot prompt and
there it goes. Good luck.

P.S. With all the OT discussions going on lately maybe it would be good
to point out that god sets his line length to approximately 72. Sorry but
I had to get one in there.
