Hello. I am sure you already got your answer, but there is another solution you might not know about. Just insert ASCII 7 in your boot scripts and that causes a beep. However, if you can use Debian packages, one was just added allowing control over the PC speaker. I know nothing more about it but it was in the most recent weekly news. I would assume they compiled it from source so you could use it on other distros as well. Just look below and find the news link. http://www.debian.org/
