I never heard of Rocklinux but it sounds attractive. I'm a Federal programmer of almost 20 years and I'm nearing retirement. I am forced to use Windows as an interface but hate it for all the reasons enumerated by others at other times. Thanks to you and Phil, I'll take a close look at both Rocklinux and Slackware because they seem to be in the line of what I want, which is as much control and knowledge of my PC as possible. I shall, of course, keep in mind your warning that Rocklinux may not be for the beginning Linux user.
